Join us for an array of colourful, creative, nature-inspired activities, suitable for all ages.

Our workshops are free to attend, however spaces will be limited and we will operate on a first come, first-served basis. Workshop bookings will open half an hour before each session begins.

Wildlife

treasure hunt

Time: 11.00am - 6.00pm

Location: Info Point, Heath Hen Hang-out

Suitable for: All ages (children must be accompanied by an adult)

Explore the beautiful Holders Woods and see what minibeasts, birds and  animals you can find!

Nature Inspired

Headresses

Time: 11.00am - 1.00pm

Location: Barbary Lion’s Lair 

Suitable for: All ages (children must be accompanied by an adult)

 

Get into the spirit of the festival by creating your very own nature inspired headdress or crown.

Using natural materials from around the woods you can adorn yourself with your foraging finds and ground yourself back to the joys of the natural world.

 

The Art of

composting

Time: 11.00am - 5.00pm

Location: Barbary Lion’s Lair 

Suitable for: All ages (children must be accompanied by an adult)

 

A tour through the workings of the microbe-rich world of compost making. Learn how to make rich, friable material for your garden without bad smells, no hordes of flies and not a single munching rat. Slim down your bin and feed your soil at the same time.

There will be games and activities and plenty of free advice on getting started with making your own compost and keeping it going.

Come and try some block-printing of Extinction Rebellion slogans and images onto clothing of your choice. Make some rebellious, nature-positive outfits to wear during the October Rebellion.

Bring your own T-shirts or other plain garments.

Hula-Hooping

Times: 11.00am - 11.30am | 13.00pm - 13.30pm | 15.00pm - 15.30pm

Suitable for: Ages 3+

 

Come and learn the art of hula-hooping! This dynamic and playful activity is great for both children and adults. During the workshop you will learn how to manipulate the hoop and have a go at some basic tricks. Hula-hooping increases your cardio fitness, flexibility and strength, all while having a great time!

Suitable for: Ages 16+

 

An opportunity for you to totally relax. To forget the world for a time and sink into an ocean of healing soundwaves – to be ‘bathed’ in sound. This is a passive group sound healing session using Himalayan & quartz singing bowls, gongs & percussion.

Sound baths are an incredible stress relief. The perfect tonic to aid relaxation and to bring about a soothing, cleansing, healing effect.

Come and take part in an interactive workshop with a nature-inspired twist. Join story-teller Catriona and Kurdish musician and violinist Zirak Hamidon, on a magical wander around the beautiful woodlands. You’ll discover hidden gems and secrets while helping to bring this exciting story to life!

Tibetan Singing Bowls have been used for centuries for healing and meditation purposes. Learn how to play and use these magical instruments in a healing context, together with some basic training in sound healing.

 

Upcycled art

Learn tips and techniques for using recycled / upcycled plastic bottles and other pieces of litter collected by local parks volunteers to create colourful and eye-catching sculptures.

 

This workshop, hosted by Birmingham Open Spaces Forum and local environmental artist Ildiko Nagy, aims to raise awareness about single-use plastics and the issue of litter in  parks in a fun and creative way.

 Come and join Birmingham Trees for Life, who will take you on a walk around the woods to look the different rich variety of tree species, while foraging for seeds and nuts to plant.

Forest gardens are productive gardens that replicate a natural woodland system. They are self-sustaining and diverse. While the concern and urgency about environmental degradation increases, forest gardening is emerging as a viable approach to land use, addressing multiple issues. During the workshop with Food Forest Brum, we will cover the basic principles, an illustrative web of life activity, and a walk round small nearby forest garden.

The shamanic practice of working with plant spirits and power plants in healing and for spiritual development is both beautiful and rewarding. Take part in this deep meditation where you will be connected with the plant world & hopefully bring back an ally to help you in your life.

 

Remembering tree & poe-tree

 

Times: 2.00pm - 5.00pm

Suitable for: All ages

 

Come and contribute to a collective tree sculpture, make a wish for a tree or gather ideas and memories about trees and what they mean to us. Ideas will form a collective poem, performed at the end of the event.

At a loss about what to do with all of your endless plastic packaging? We may well have the answer for you! Ecobricks are an innovative solution to waste management, as each brick is made from a plastic water bottle stuffed with compacted non-biodegradable rubbish. Eco-bricks are used to make modular furniture, garden spaces and even buildings! This fun, interactive workshop will teach you the tricks of the trade, so you can start your own home-based projects.

insect hotel

Time: 3.00pm - 5.00pm

Location: Barbary Lion’s Lair 

Suitable for: All ages

 

An insect hotel is as the name suggests, a place for travelling insects and solitary bees to use as a temporary home. In this workshop with eco-birmingham you’ll make a mini-hotel to take home with you. By having one in your garden you will be actively supporting biodiversity in your area, not to mention giving the plants you grow a pollination power-up!

Suitable for: All ages (children must be accompanied by an adult)

 

Design and create your own funky and punky accessories using “vegan leather”.

Rubber inner tubes are generally destined for landfill. Once you’ve seen what you can do with them, you’ll be down your local bike store.

Asking for more. Learn some basic techniques and see what you can create. Purses, earrings, bracelets and brooches are where we start...

Get lost in the dance, until only the dance is there and the dancer has disappeared... This one-hour experience is hosted by Laur Bee as she guides you into the space of meditation through dance, silence and celebration.

 

Nataraj is the energy of dance. Enjoy letting go and becoming at one with the rhythms and melodies, where all inner division disappears and a subtle, relaxed awareness remains. A fun, and relaxed workshop suitable for all.

 

eco-weaving

Time: 5.00pm - 7.00pm

Location: Barbary Lion’s Lair 

Suitable for: Ages 14 +

Come and learn the ancient craft of weaving in this fun & informative workshop, where we will be making woven decorations to decorate your home or garden!

 

Local community artist, ILdiko, will guide you through the process of how to do a basic weave with willow, yarn and other upcycled materials including rubber and plastic.

Time: 7.30pm - 8.00pm

Location: Black Rhino Retreat 

Suitable for: Ages 12+

Our final workshop for the day. Come and rest your feet and relax in this guided meditation, which will be focused on promoting balancing and healing, through aligning with the incredible energy of the full moon.
